1. Get out of bed right away when you wake up
The first step to creating a self-care morning routine that will actually increase productivity is to get in the habit of getting out of bed right when you wake up. You will need to be disciplined and set a goal to get out of bed right away, instead of scrolling on your phone.
How to get out of bed right away:
- Use the 5 second rule and countdown from 5, then take action
- Get in the habit of not hitting the snooze button
- Use a sunrise alarm clock to naturally wake up
- Make your bed right when you get out so you won’t go back in
- Set your phone wallpaper as a motivating quote
- Create a morning routine that makes you excited to start your morning
- Have something to look forward to like coffee, pre-workout, journalling, podcasts

2. Drink water
Drink water right away! Drinking water right when you wake up will re-hydrate you, make you feel less foggy, more energized, and boost your motivation. I highly recommend using a water bottle that has time markers so you actually know how much water you are drinking.
How to get yourself to drink more water:
- Use a water bottle with time markers
- Put fresh lemon in your water
- Make it a habit to drink water first thing in the morning
- Always have your water bottle or tumbler with you
- Use a water tracking app
- Set reminders
3. Watch motivating videos or read inspiring quotes
I absolutely LOVE watching motivating videos on Youtube and Tiktok while on the treadmill to start my day. This is the best way to change your mindset to being more productive and inspired. Find motivating accounts to follow on your favourite social media apps and incorporate this into your self-care morning routine.
Where to find motivating videos or quotes:
- Search “motivating quotes” on Pinterest
- Search “motivation mindset” on TikTok
- Search “self-care” or “motivation” on YouTube
- Search “self-care”, “mindset”, “motivation”, “self-love”, “self-improvement” on Spotify podcasts

If you add getting some sort of movement in to your self-care morning routine, I promise you WILL be more productive. Getting some sort of exercise in the morning will start your day with confidence, boost your energy levels, and enhance your mental clarity. 8. Write in your journal or write a gratitude list
Getting your thoughts out, writing out your feelings, listing things you are grateful for will change your life. This will start your day with positivity which will motivate you and allow you to be more productive. Don’t let your thoughts take over your mind. Write it all out and then let it go. Start your day with a fresh mind.
9. Plan your day and write to do lists
Planning your day and using to do lists is the absolute best way to be productive and be your best self.
